Zesty Halibut Tacos

Our Zesty Halibut Tacos boasts a medley of flavors. The seasoned halibut offers a mildly spicy, citrusy profile with smoky undertones. The cabbage slaw, featuring cilantro, lime, and jalapeño, adds crunch and freshness, while the chipotle lime crema brings a creamy, tangy, and subtly smoky element. The combination is a vibrant, well-balanced fusion of zesty, spicy, and savory notes.

Ingredients:

  • For the Halibut:

    • 1 pound halibut fillets, skin removed
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1 teaspoon chili powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    • Salt and black pepper, to taste
    • Juice of 1 lime

    For the Cabbage Slaw:

    • 2 cups shredded green cabbage
    • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
    • 1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion
    • 1 jalapeño, seeded and finely chopped
    • Juice of 1 lime
    • Salt and black pepper, to taste

    For the Chipotle Lime Crema:

    • 1/2 cup sour cream
    • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
    • 1 tablespoon adobo sauce from canned chipotle peppers
    • Juice of 1 lime
    • Salt, to taste

    For Serving:

    • 8 small flour or corn tortillas
    • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
    • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Halibut:
    • Preheat your grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat.
    • In a bowl, mix olive oil, ground cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Brush the halibut fillets with this mixture.
    • Grill the halibut for 3-4 minutes per side or until it flakes easily with a fork. Squeeze lime juice over the grilled halibut.
  2. Make the Cabbage Slaw:
    • In a large bowl, combine shredded green cabbage, chopped cilantro, sliced red onion, jalapeño, lime juice, salt, and black pepper. Toss to coat the slaw evenly.
  3. Prepare the Chipotle Lime Crema:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, adobo sauce, lime juice, and salt. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
  4. Warm the Tortillas:
    • Heat the tortillas on the grill or in a dry skillet until warm and pliable.
  5. Assemble the Tacos:
    • Flake the grilled halibut into bite-sized pieces.
    • On each tortilla, place a portion of the halibut, top with cabbage slaw, and drizzle with chipotle lime crema.
  6. Garnish and Serve:
    • Garnish the tacos with fresh cilantro leaves and serve with lime wedges on the side.
